2019 Candidate Survey

The Spokane County Republican Party emailed questionnaires to all candidates running for offices within Spokane County for the 2019 election cycle. The mailing list was obtained from the Spokane County Elections website. Our intent with respect to the questionnaires is three fold.

  1. Provide a place for all candidates to express their views on important and current topics so that all voters can evaluate their positions for themselves.
  2. Provide this organization a way to give some evaluation (rating) of the candidates and how well they align with the guiding principles of the Spokane County Republican Party.
  3. Create dialogue on the critical issues facing this county.

This should not be construed as an endorsement of any candidate for any particular office.

We desire to have more than an echo chamber so we especially appreciate those who responded who may not consider themselves aligned in large part with our views.

Please see the table below with our ratings and links to individual survey responses.

The Spokane County Republican Party would like to thank all those who have responded to this survey. If a response was not received, the candidate is not listed in the table.

We have included a brief summary of our Guiding Principles in this report. The complete document, Guiding Principles, is on our website. We encourage all who agree to some or most of these principles to join us in promoting them and to vote for candidates who will implement policies that will help us continue to build a community that reflects these values.

Additional information on candidates can be found at the Washington Voter Guide website.

SPOKANE COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Individual Rights: We support the active enforcement of the original Bill of Rights as written and intended by the founders.

Right to Keep and Bear Arms: We believe in the right to bear arms in defense of our lives, property and nation from all enemies both foreign and domestic.

Property Rights: We agree that it is the right of all citizens to acquire, own, use, possess, enjoy and dispose of private property as they see fit.

Limited Government: We believe that government is best when it governs least and is closest to the people.

Jobs, Economy and Currency: We support balanced budgets, reduced regulations and limited taxation.

National Sovereignty, Immigration & Defense: We believe that America must have the strongest national defense necessary to defend our borders, our homes and our national interests.

Family Values: We support the right of families to be free to raise their children according to their personal morals, values and spiritual beliefs.

Education: We are dedicated to reaffirming the importance of safety for students and staff. Moreover, we support a rigorous “back to basics” curriculum as determined by parents and local school districts.

Healthcare: We believe that the best healthcare model is one with very limited government intervention, based around the principle of individual responsibility.

Infrastructure (Energy/Utilities, Transportation & Technology):  We believe that energy, transportation and technology are critical to growth and safety.

Justice: We believe that strict adherence to the rule of law as laid out in The U. S. Constitution is critical to America. The American justice system exists to protect our liberties. All people have a right to equal treatment under the law.
